NeW Lenox, IL : Medics injured after an Ambulance flips in collision with truck on Thursday, February 25, 2016

An ambulance in Illinois was hit by a pickup truck and flipped onto its side while transporting a patient to the hospital.

The Chicago Tribune reported the ambulance was turning at an intersection when the pickup truck failed to yield and struck the ambulance.

The ambulance was transporting a man who had sustained an ankle injury in a car crash and had its lights and sirens on at the time of the collision.

The firefighter-paramedics who were in the ambulance suffered minor back and shoulder injuries. The patient suffered no additional injuries. The man driving the truck was also uninjured.

“We're lucky that we follow our procedures for the patient and the drivers,” Fire Chief Dan Forsythe said. “We can buy a new ambulance, but the guys are going to be sore tomorrow. It could have been a lot worse.”

Police said the truck driver was ticketed for failure to yield to an emergency vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
