Oviedo, FL : 2nd crash sending deputy to hospital follows fiery hit-and-run on S.R. 417 in Oviedo area on Friday, 29th January 2021

Traffic on northbound State Road 417 was flowing smoothly again on Friday morning after two crashes near the Oviedo area.

The first incident involved two vehicles just after 5 a.m. on mile marker 40, south of Red Bug Lake Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

A Ford vehicle collided with a Lexus and caught fire, said the FHP’s Lt. Kim Montes. The driver of the Ford fled the scene on foot.

One person in the Lexus was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation while troopers work to identify and contact the driver of the Ford, Montes said.

Traffic was shut down for over an hour, but the roadway was cleared from that crash after 6:30 a.m.
