ATTLEBORO, MA : Three people suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 295 on Wednesday, October, 18th 2017
Three people suffered serious injuries in a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 295 North by Interstate 95 South Wednesday morning.
The accident was one of two reported around 10:30 a.m. and one of three within an hour, all involving cars that had rolled over in the crashes, Fire Capt. Michael Maitland said.
In the collision at I-295, the three drivers were taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, including the driver of a car that had split open in a collision involving a pickup truck towing a trailer, Maitland said.
All the vehicles were heavily damaged or destroyed in the collision.
The crash occurred just prior to the exits for I-95.
A North Attleboro ambulance and two Attleboro ambulances took the victims to the hospital.
The accident caused a traffic jam on I-295 North. Portions of the highway were closed while state police investigated and officials cleared the scene.
A state police spokesman had no information on the crash by Wednesday afternoon.
The state Department of Transportation sent a sweeper to the scene to clear debris from the highway. Firefighters also soaked up vehicle fluids with an absorbent, Maitland said.
A two-car accident on I-95 North by the Route 123 exchange occurred at the same time, Maitland said.
A short time later, another two-car collision occurred at I-95 North at the Newport Avenue exchange in which one person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The accidents are under investigation by state police.
