Monmouth, IL : Pedestrian killed in state squad car crash on Saturday, August 13, 2016
Illinois State Police today released the following statement regarding the crash involving a District 8 (Metamora) state trooper at 4:19 a.m. Saturday at Illinois 116 at Centennial Drive, East Peoria.
“It saddens me to announce a pedestrian was fatally injured during a tragic traffic crash along Illinois Route 116,” said ISP Capt. Steven Riesenberg. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased and their family.”
The preliminary investigation indicates an Illinois state trooper was driving in the left lane of Illinois 116 when he struck a pedestrian walking in the middle of the unlit highway. The trooper did not have time to react before striking the subject.
The trooper was not injured but was taken to a local hospital to be examined. The scene is being processed by ISP Crime Scene Services, the ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit, and ISP Zone 4 Investigations. No further information is being released at this time.
