Jackson ,MS:Hospital security guard killed while crossing Jackson street on early Friday morning , August 28th 2015

A University of Mississippi Medical Center security guard died after being struck by a hit and run driver.

Jackson police say the motorist fled the scene of the early Friday morning.

Police department spokeswoman Officer Colendula Green tells local media outlets that the victim has been identified as 58-year-old Mattie Amos.

Green says the driver sped off after Amos was then hit by a second vehicle, whose driver stopped. Green says the case is being investigated as a hit-and-run. She says police are looking for the driver.

UMMC officials say Amos was crossing the street on her way to work when she was hit. Officials say Amos had worked for UMMC for nearly a year.
