Boy, 14, Killed By School Bus While Riding Bike in Glendale
A 14-year-old bicyclist was killed in Glendale Thursday afternoon after he was struck by and dragged underneath a school bus, authorities said.The seventh-grade student, whose identity was not immediately released, was riding his bicycle on the sidewalk near Columbus Avenue and Riverdale Drive about 2 p.m. when the fatal accident happened.
Authorities said he rode his bicycle off the sidewalk and into Columbus Avenue when he was hit inside a traffic circle.
The teenager was taken to the hospital at 2:04 p.m. and pronounced dead exactly one hour later.
The fatal collision happened near Theodore Roosevelt Middle School. It was not immediately known if the victim was a student at the school.
A witness told NBC4 the bus driver was also taken to the hospital, possibly for elevated blood pressure.
No students were on the bus at the time of the crash.
