Asheboro,NC : Elderly couple killed in two-vehicle wreck on December, Tuesday 19th 2017

A couple was pronounced dead at the scene of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Siler City Glendon Road and Bonlee Bennett Road in Chatham County on Dec. 14.

According to reports from the Chatham Highway Patrol, Joseph “Joe” Lynn Pendergrass, 76, and wife Billie Jean King Pendergrass, 76, both of 176 Providence Church Road, Siler City, were killed when their Ford Explorer was struck by a Ford 150 pickup truck.

Earl Dowd, 85, was driving the truck west on Bonlee Bennett Road and reportedly failed to stop at the stop sign before hitting the Pendergrasses, who were traveling south on Siler City Glendon Road. Dowd was transported to UNC Hospitals by ambulance.

According to Tom Hughes, a public relations representative for UNC Hospitals, Dowd was admitted and his condition is currently listed as good.
