Stillwater, OK : Two injured in one-vehicle wreck on Thursday, September 7, 2017
Two men were taken by helicopter to OU Medical Center on Thursday night to be treated for incapacitating injuries after the white Honda CR-V they were traveling in struck a tree west of Brush Creek Road north of the intersection at Highway 51.
Jase Charles Hoffman, 19, and Trevor Lee Hoffman, 21, were both taken for incapacitating injuries to their arms, legs, internal and external chests; both men are being treated for their injuries but have not been released. According to a collision report from the Stillwater Police Department, an officer wrote the vehicle Jase was driving had a strong odor of alcohol - a witness who was on the scene shortly after the collision occurred said both men were wearing their seatbelts.
"I was eastbound on 6th (Avenue) just before Bad Brad's behind two other cars and a set of headlights flew across the intersection around 100-115 mph," wrote Stillwater resident Ty Roberts in a police statement. "I do not believe the wheels even touched the ground on the highway, I turned around to check ... and found them off the bridge."
Part of Sixth Avenue was closed for the helicopter to transport both men to Oklahoma City after crews responded to the collision, which occurred at 10:05 p.m. according to the report. The road was partially closed for about three hours, reopening at 1:30 a.m. The report estimates that the vehicle would have been airborne for about 83 feet before colliding with the tree. Jase was pinned and not freed from the vehicle until 11:49 p.m., and Trevor was freed at 10:58 p.m.
"We were traveling east on Highway 51," Robert and Toni Broyles wrote in a statement. "They were going so fast that the SUV was airborne and the dust was so thick we could hardly see after they crossed the road. We noticed as we passed that the car was off the road so we called 911 and turned around to go back to the scene. Numerous people were on the scene to help."
The report lists the cause of the collision as alcohol-related.
