Virginia Beach, VA : One person dead after a crash on Northampton Boulevard in Virginia Beach on Monday evening, May 16, 2016

One person died after a crash at the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Pleasure House Road Monday evening.

Officer P.C. D’Orio, police spokesman, said dispatchers were notified shortly before 7 p.m. of a two-vehicle crash. D'Orio said a Lexus driven by a man with a woman passenger came to a stop at a red light at the intersection of Northampton Boulevard and Pleasure House Road when a truck crashed into the Lexus from behind.

D'Orio said the man driving the Lexus was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman in the Lexus was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The driver of the truck, D'Orio said, sustained no injuries.

Everyone involved in the crash was wearing their seat belt. D'Orio said speed appears to be a factor in this crash, alcohol does not.

Officer J.C. Cason with Virginia Beach police said the truck driver was identified as John A. Pignataro 27, of Annapolis, Md. He was issued a summons for reckless driving. Cason said Pignataro was released on a summons.

There are no updates on the condition of the woman who was transported to the hospital.
