Loveland, CO : Two people were killed in a late night car crash at U.S. 34 on Monday, 22nd August, 2016
A car crash late Monday claimed the lives of two people, Loveland Police Department officials said.
The crash occurred about 10:08 p.m. on the far east side of the city, on U.S. 34 near the entrance to Northern Colorado Rehabilitation Hospital.
According to Loveland Police Chief Bob Ticer, who joined first responders at the scene of the crash, a driver of a pickup was traveling eastbound in the westbound lane of U.S. 34 when the pickup collided with a compact car
traveling westbound in the passing lane of the highway. The roadway is divided at the crash site, and Ticer said it appears as though the pickup driver believed he or she was in the correct lane -- but clearly was not.
There were no passengers in either of the vehicles.
The force of the crash caused the engine compartments of both vehicles to crumble inward and the vehicles to be pointed in the opposite direction of their initial travel.
The names of the victims have not been released pending the notification of family members.
It is the second double-fatal vehicle crash in two days in the boundaries of the Loveland Fire Rescue Authority. On Sunday, Joshua and Sherri Zander of Fort Collins died when the motorcycle they were riding was involved in
a crash on U.S. 34 in the Big Thompson Canyon.
