Tempe, AZ : 1 dead, 1 injured in hit-and-run crash in the area of University Drive and College Avenue on Sunday, 16th February, 2020
A 42-year-old woman died and a man was injured Sunday morning after they were hit by a car in Tempe while crossing the road, police said.
The man and woman were crossing the road about 2:30 a.m. in the area of University Drive and College Avenue, said Tempe Police Department spokesperson Det. Natalie Barela.
A car driving west on University Drive struck the two pedestrians and drove away from the area without stopping, she said.
The woman was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, Barela said. The man, whose age was not provided by police, had minor injuries, she said.
The car that struck the two pedestrians was later found by Tempe police near 52nd Street and Broadway Road and the driver was arrested, according to Barela. The driver's identity and possible charges were not provided.
Impairment was not believed to be a factor, she said.
An investigation into the incident was ongoing.
