RURAL FITHIAN, IL : Driver in I-74 crash has died on Thursday, March 23rd 2017
An early morning crash on Interstate 74 has claimed the life of a 19-year-old Danville resident.
Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup said Jerrell Deshon Hall was pronounced dead at 3:52 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital's emergency room in Urbana.
Northrup said Mr. Hall died of multiple blunt force injuries. An inquest may be held at a later date.
Illinois State Police and the coroner's office are investigating the accident that killed Mr. Hall and injured two other Danville men.
Trooper Tracy Lillard said Jontell James Robinson, 20, and a 17-year-old, whose name is not being released, were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. Lillard said their injuries were non-life-threatening.
According to a police report, the accident occurred at 1:04 a.m. by the westbound lanes of the interstate near mile post 202, near Fithian.
The report said Mr. Hall was driving a black 2007 Mitsubishi Galant east on the interstate when the car ran off the road to the left, went through the wires in the median and overturned on the shoulder of the westbound lane. Mr. Hall, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car.
Emergency personnel from the FMC Fire Protection District responded to the crash. When a crew arrived, the occupants of the car were already out of the vehicle, said Chief Phil Hoshauer.
Hoshauer said the weather was clear at the time of the accident.
The report said the passengers were wearing seat belts.
