Memphis, TN : Child in critical condition following alleged DUI crash on Saturday night, November 1, 2014

That's how one neighbor described the boy who was injured in an apparent DUI crash Saturday night. Police say 29-year-old Kenyatta Reed-Ferguson was driving eastbound on I-240 when she swerved and lost control of the car, crashing into two fences before coming to a stop. According to a police affidavit, when officers arrived she was trying to start the car. Officers could smell a strong odor of alcohol and said Reed-Ferguson told them her son was in the car. Officers found a small child laying face down in the backseat. He was not in a child safety seat and no seat was found in the car. The boy was taken to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital in critical condition. His mother was taken to jail and charged with DUI, child endangerment, reckless driving and violation of child restraint. When police asked her what happened, she told them a car swerved in front of her, she turned and lost control. When asked if she had been drinking she told police "she had a beer before she left where she was." "If you know somebody that drinks you need to check them all the time," added the neighbor. "Before they leave the house, especially with kids." Reed-Ferguson refused medical treatment and a blood draw on scene. Officers had to help her to the squad car because she could not "walk without falling." If convicted, it would be Reed-Ferguson's 2nd DUI. In June of 2011 she was arrested and charged with DUI after being pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt. Her rap sheet doesn't stop there. She's been arrested for driving without a license, speeding, driving without proper registration and shoplifting. Reed-Ferguson remains in jail and set to appear in court Monday morning.
