BOSTON, FL : 2 dead in hotel shuttle crash near Ted Williams Tunnel on Wednesday, 31st August, 2016
Two people were killed and several others were injured early Wednesday morning in a crash involving a car and a shuttle bus near Logan International Airport. The crash was reported about 1:15 a.m. between a Subaru Legacy and a hotel shuttle bus on Route 1A North just beyond the exit of the Ted Williams Tunnel.
State police said it appears that the Subaru exited the tunnel and rear-ended the Hampton Inn shuttle bus, which had just entered Route 1A from the airport.
The collision caused the shuttle to veer to the left and strike a jersey barrier before cutting back across the road and hitting the right-side barrier, state police said.
Two people in the shuttle -- Joseph A. Rodriguez, 59, and Sandra L. Arreola, 47, both of El Paso, Texas -- were ejected and declared dead at the scene.
Three other people on the shuttle -- the driver, a 53-year-old, and two other passengers, a 57-year-old woman from El Paso and a 45-year-old man from Tampa, Florida -- suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The shuttle has seat belts, but it's unclear if the passengers were using them.
The driver of the Subaru, a 27-year-old man from Swampscott, was taken to MGH with non-life-threatening injuries.
The eastbound tunnel was closed at exit 26 for about five hours after the crash. It reopened at about 6:30 a.m.
