Mount Clemens, MI : 69-year-old Lexington man dies in Chesterfield Township motorcycle crash on Saturday, July 23, 2016
A 69-year-old Lexington man died Saturday after he was struck by a vehicle while he was on his motorcycle stopped at a Chesterfield Township intersection, township police said.
James Meredith Weir died after he was struck on his 2010 Harley Davidson about 11:50 a.m. at 22 Mile Road and Gratiot by a Pontiac G6 driven by a 43-year-old woman, police said.
Weir was waiting at the traffic signal and was hit from behind. He was thrown into a Chevy Trailblazer that was stopped in front of him police said. He was conscious at the scene and provided his account of what happened. He was wearing a helmet and was treated for internal injuries at McLaren Macomb hospital in Mount Clemens, where he died later.
The other drivers did not suffer serious injuries.
It appears drugs or alcohol were not involved, police said. Township police Detective Sgt. Deron Myers said the woman was ticketed at the scene but could face an additional misdemeanor charge.
The woman told police she did not realize the vehicles were stopped at the traffic signal until it was too late to stop, police said.
