San Diego, CA : Wild chase and crash near Highway 76 in the North County on Thursday, November 27, 2014

The California Highway Patrol officers were in hot pursuit after two vehicles led them on a high-speed chase in North County Thursday. Investigators say a flipped-over Jeep on a hillside and red Honda Civic were caught racing on a side street near Highway 76 in the North County. Sgt. Scott Payson with the CHP said the drivers were exceeding 80 to 90 miles an hour. The chase started when two CHP cruisers approached the drivers. When they passed Via Monserate the Honda - with two men inside - made another costly mistake as they crossed the double yellow lines during the high-speed chase. "He hits the Jeep's left rear tire. The Jeep flips and he loses control of his car too,” explained Sgt. Payson. The driver of the Jeep was rushed to the hospital. But it didn't end there. The man - who drove the Honda - hid from CHP in some brush. "The driver gave up only after sheriff's K-9 came and the dog found him hiding in the grass,” continued Sgt. Payson. He was then arrested and checked out for injuries. Traffic was diverted for hours and the CHP says this is a serious reminder to all drivers. "When law enforcement gets involved, it's very seldom when you have the young people thinking they're going to run. It's very seldom when they run, do they get away,” Sgt. Payson said. The three men are in their 20's. They're expected to survive and now face felony charges for speeding and sparking a chase.
