Hampton, MN : One Rochester teen dead after head-on crash on U.S. 52 north of Cannon Falls Friday afternoon, October 21, 2016
A Rochester teen was killed and four others were injured, two seriously, after a crash on U.S. Highway 52 north of Cannon Falls Friday afternoon, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Three teens were ejected from the vehicle after the driver, 18-year-old Affey Asdirham, of Rochester, lost control, then overcorrected and crossed all lanes to collide head-on with a southbound vehicle, according to the State Patrol. The crash occurred at 2:44 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 52 and Minnesota Highway 50 near Hampton.
Sahra Ahmed, 16, of Rochester, was declared dead at the scene, authorities said. Suad Ahmed, 16, and Edna Ahmed, 14, suffered serious injuries and were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul. A condition update was not immediately available and it's unclear if they're related.
None of the three were wearing seat belts, according to State Patrol.
Asdirham and 17-year-old Ali Mustaf, another passenger, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester for treatment. They were both wearing seat belts, according to the patrol.
The driver of the other vehicle, Karen Arbuckle, 54, and her father, 87-year-old Brandon Bjerke, both of Farmington, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts and did not require medical attention, according to the patrol.
The patrol's report was incomplete early Saturday afternoon and it's unclear what other emergency responders assisted at the scene.
