Beatrice, NE : Man drowns in Lake Elmo fishing accident on Thursday, June 15, 2017

A man in his 20s drowned in a lake in Lake Elmo on Thursday, the Washington County sheriff’s office reported

The man, whose name has not been released, was a resident of the county.

The accident happened about 11 a.m. when a canoe capsized on Lake Jane. The weather was windy, and apparently waves swamped the canoe. The three fishermen on board were plunged into the water.

According to Sheriff Dan Starry, a homeowner on the lake saw the accident and immediately piloted his pontoon boat to the scene. He was able to save one man who was wearing a life preserver and another who was not.
