FLEMINGTON, NJ : Man involved in serious crash indicted by grand jury on Monday, January 30th 2017
James Lazzarotti, 56, of Hampton, charged with assault by auto for his role in a serious two-vehicle accident in has been indicted by a Hunterdon County grand jury.
The indictment was unsealed on Thursday. Lazzarotti had already been charged with driving under the influence of Fentanyl, and was additionally charged with assault by auto. The two-vehicle crash on Klinesville Road happened at 1:17 p.m. on Sept. 8.
Lazzarotti, driving a 2000 GMC pickup, was traveling south on Klinesville Road near Featherbed Lane in Raritan Township when he reportedly crossed over the double-yellow lines and struck a 1994 Honda Civic del Sol driven by a 68-year-old Frenchtown man, police said. He struck the del Sol nearly head-on, police said.
The del Sol stopped off the road with the driver trapped inside because of extensive front-end damage. The driver, who had to be extricated by members of the Flemington-Raritan First Aid and Rescue Squad, was transported to Morristown Medical Center with an apparent back injury, police said.
Lazzarotti was transported to Hunterdon Medical Center for evaluation. There were no other occupants in either vehicle, and both vehicles were towed from the scene, according to police.
