Newport News, VA : Backup on MMMBT after crash on Thursday, 8th September 2016

All lanes on I-664 northbound at the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel were reopened about 6:45 a.m.

Backups on the interstate were initially about 4 miles long after a multi-vehicle crash in the tunnel closed all lanes for about 30 minutes, according to VDOT.

The backup grew to about 6 miles long by 7:05 a.m., when VDOT announced the crash was cleared. As of about 7:50 a.m., the backup is about 6 miles.

A multi-vehicle crash in the tunnel of the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel has halted traffic on Interstate 664 north, according to VDOT.

VDOT reported the crash about 6:15 a.m. There is a backup of about 4 miles on I-664, and VDOT warns of major delays.
