One person was killed in a crash involving a car and a semi early Tuesday on U.S. Highway 2 in Iron County.

The Iron County Sheriff's Office reported that the crash occurred just before 4 a.m. near the intersection of Highway 2 and state Highway 122, about 12 miles west of Ironwood.

A passenger in the car died, the Sheriff's Office reported. The drivers of the two vehicles were transported to a hospital in Ironwood.

The names of those involved, and further details on the circumstances of the crash, were not available as of Tuesday night.

Highway 2 was closed for several hours after the crash. The incident remains under investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
