Statesville, NC : A volunteer firefighter died in a crash between motorcycle and a pickup truck at Intersection of Old Mocksville Highway on Saturday, 3rd September, 2016

A volunteer firefighter died in an Iredell County crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck, according to troopers.
The crash reportedly happened in Statesville on Old Mocksville Highway at Swann Road at 1:01 p.m.
According to troopers, John Marlowe's truck was making a left hand turn at the intersection and failed to yield. Marlowe reportedly turned left in front of the motorcycle and the two collided.
Troopers said the motorcyclist, 51-year-old Jackie Cheeks, was then thrown from the motorcycle.
Cheeks is a volunteer firefighter with Sheffield-Calahaln Volunteer Fire Department from Mocksville, NC.
The Fire Department posted on its Facebook page Saturday and extended condolences to Cheeks' family.
"It is with a very heavy heart that we send this out to you to let you know we lost one of own today. Jackie Cheeks was in a fatal head on collision this afternoon while riding his motorcycle. Please keep Lori, Brandon and their
families in your prayers."
Marlowe was cited for failure to yield and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
