A Sacramento man died early Wednesday after rear-ending two cars that had slowed for construction on Interstate 5.About 4:35 a.m., Patrick Jones, 47, was driving north in a box truck north of Sperry Avenue approaching a construction zone where the highway is being resurfaced, said California Highway Patrol Officer Chuck Leon.Jaswant Singh, 59, of Patterson was driving a Nissan Frontier in front of Jones in the fast lane. He was traveling 10 to 20 mph due to the heavy traffic in the construction zone when the box truck rear-ended his pickup at highway speed.The impact caused both vehicles to veer east; the pickup came to rest on the shoulder, but the box truck slammed into the back of a big rig that was in the middle lane, Leon said.Neither Singh nor the driver of the big rig, 49-year-old Dong Minh Ung of Monterey Park, were injured in the crash.Jones was taken by helicopter to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where he died.
