Beaumont, TX : Woman with child crashes into interstate barrier, arrested for DWI on Monday, November 21st, 2016
A Beaumont woman evaded police officers and crashed into the interstate barrier with her toddler in the car, BPD PIO Carol Riley said in a release.
A Beaumont Police officer was patrolling in the area around Lucas Drive near Eastex and saw a vehicle stopped in the roadway on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 12:14 a.m. He approached the vehicle and noticed a small child in the arms of an unconscious woman. He tried to make contact, the woman woke up and sped off.
The woman was finally apprehended when she went straight on Laurel Avenue, jumped the curb, went across several lanes of interstate traffic and crashed into the concrete interstate divider, according to the statement. Officers were able to separate the mother and child, and place the mother in custody.
The driver was identified as Joinae Loreal Powell, a 25 year old Beaumont woman. She was transported to the hospital, cleared by hospital staff and then transported to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office where she was booked for evading detention with a motor vehicle and DWI with a child passenger.
