A Brunswick woman died Thursday night at a Baltimore hospital from injuries she suffered in a head-on collision on U.S. 40 Alternate near Middletown, state police said.
Paul Francis Smith, 25, of Smithsburg, was traveling west in a 2012 silver Dodge Ram truck on U.S. 40A when he crossed into the eastbound lanes, striking a 2008 white Toyota Corolla head-on at about 8 p.m. Thursday, a Maryland State Police press release states.
The Toyota Corolla’s front-seat passenger, Deborah Kay Bell, 59, of Brunswick, was flown via helicopter to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where she later died Thursday night.
The Corolla’s driver, Terry Eugene Wolfe, 67, of Middletown, was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, according to the release.
Smith refused medical treatment and was not taken to a hospital, according to Cpl. Ryan Shaffer, who was at the scene of the crash.
U.S. 40A was closed for about 3½ hours Thursday night with traffic directed on the shoulder.
