Roanoke, VA : Covington man killed in motorcycle crash in Botetourt County on February, Monday 12th 2018

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Monday afternoon in Botetourt County.The crash happened at 1:23 p.m. on Interstate 81 north at the 148 mile marker just south of the Troutville scales and after the Hollins exit, according to a news release from Virginia State Police.

The release said a 2017 Honda Rebel 300 motorcycle was traveling north on Interstate 81 when it lost control and ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the guardrail, ejecting the driver. The northbound lanes of the interstate were closed from the time of the crash until 2:14 p.m. when the left lane opened for traffic to pass. The right lane was opened after the removal of the motorcycle at 3:07 p.m., the release said.

Damian Reece Hiatt, 23, of Covington died at the scene of the crash, and police said he was wearing a helmet. The crash is still under investigation.
