Reading, PA : Car crashes into pizzeria on Route 183 in Bern Township on Thursday afternoon, March 30, 2017

No injuries were reported Thursday afternoon after a car struck a pizzeria along Route 183 in Bern Township.

A compact car jumped a concrete curb and struck the facade of Joey Peeps Pizza & Subs on West Leesport Road about 11:10 a.m.
“It was a little scary but no one was hurt,” said owner Frank Coccia. “There was only a little cosmetic damage to the building.”

Coccia said a fast-thinking customer sitting at a table where the impact occurred rolled out of the way to avoid injury.
“To be honest, I think we were all a bit shaken up by what happened,” he said.
Coccia said customers and staff remained inside the building during the incident after fire officials informed them that they were not in any danger.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
An employee of the pizzeria said the damage to the wall had been completely repaired by Thursday night, and the business did not have to close.
