NORTH CHARLESTON, SC : Coroner IDs victim of fatal late-night DUI crash on Rivers Ave suspect charged on Thursday, 12th September 2024

The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has shared the name of the victim of a DUI crash.

Joanne Hampton-Lawson, 80, of North Charleston, died from injuries sustained in a crash in North Charleston, Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said.

Officers were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday to Rivers Avenue at Benderson Drive in response to reports about a two-vehicle collision, police spokesperson Harve Jacobs said.

Upon arrival, officers found one vehicle partially submerged in a waterlogged ditch with both occupants trapped inside.
