PETOSKEY, MI : Traffic crash prompts closure of U.S. 131 stretch near Petoskey on Wednesday, 8th January, 2020

Authorities have been diverting traffic off U.S. 131 south of Petoskey today, Wednesday, following a crash that involved a school bus and an SUV.

A News-Review reporter who was at the crash scene around 4:45 p.m. said northbound drivers were being rerouted off the highway at Wiiliams Road, and southbound drivers at Kemp Road as responders tended to the scene between those two intersections.

The crash, which occurred around 4 p.m., involved the front of a Honda CR-V colliding with the rear of a Petoskey school bus.

An Emmet County sheriff's officer at the scene confirmed that the bus was carrying four children and one driver at the time of the crash, none of whom were injured. Two occupants of the SUV were being transported to McLaren Northern Michigan hospital, and one of them had to be extricated from the vehicle beforehand.
