A man died in a car accident in northwest Bakersfield Sunday afternoon.
Bakersfield Police officers were called to the intersection of Verdugo Lane and Noriega Road at 12:32 p.m. where two cars had collided. According to a report from the Bakersfield Police Department, officers on the scene found a man, who had been driving a white Ford Expedition, with major injuries. The man was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
A passenger in the Ford suffered moderate injuries, and the driver of the other vehicle, a grey Dodge Ram truck, was not injured.
Police determined the driver of the Dodge was traveling west on Noriega Road and did not stop at a red light, broadsiding the Ford traveling south on Verdugo Lane on a green light.
The driver of the Dodge was found to not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs; it is not known if drugs or alcohol were a factor for the driver of the Ford.
