Victim identified in deadly crash Near Lawrenceville New Jersey
Lawrenceville, New Jersey
A two-vehicle crash left one person dead and another in the hospital in Gwinnett County on Saturday night.
The accident, which took place on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road, caused a gas leak and residents are being kept out of the area.
Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Chris Hyde said a driver, 52-year-old Everand Nelson of Lawrenceville, left the scene of a minor hit and run at the intersection of Tab Roberts, and continued down the road.
Nelson's car then jumped the median and hit another driver, later identified as 35-year-old Alandis Spells of Decatur, going the opposite direction."On impact that hit and run driver literally peeled the roof off the victim's car and the victim was killed," said Sgt. Hyde.
Spells' silver Dodge Charger then continued into a yard, hit the exterior of a home and struck the gas meter.
Nelson later flipped his car. He was taken to the hospital, where he remains Monday morning.
Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said Nelson will be charged with vehicular homicide, reckless driving, improper lane change and driving on the wrong side of the road.
