Tampa, FL : Driver injured after a collision between a car and a semitrailer truck on Interstate 75 on Thursday September 18th 2014
All lanes of southbound Interstate 75 in northern Hillsborough County were temporarily closed during evening rush hour Thursday after a collision between a car and a semitrailer truck, authorities said.
The crash happened near the northbound Interstate 275 entrance ramp.
Andre Whitehead, 43, of St. Petersburg was driving a semi containing used vegetable oil southbound on I-75, the Florida Highway Patrol said. At the same time, Warren Sisson, 77, of Venice was also driving southbound.
Whitehead changed lanes and hit Sisson's 2001 Audi A6, troopers said. He over-corrected and the semi overturned.
Whitehead was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital with serious injuries. He was ticketed for improper lane change, authorities said. Sisson and his passenger, Margaret Sisson, 75, of Venice were not injured.
