Four motorcyclists were killed in a crash near Lake McConaughy on Saturday morning.
According to a statement issued by the Nebraska State Patrol on Saturday evening, the wreck occurred just before 9:30 a.m. on Highway 26, near mile marker 136 south of Lake McConaughy.
Although the cause of the crash is still under investigation, authorities believe a vehicle crossed the center line and entered the oncoming lane where it struck two motorcycles, each carrying two riders.
Sheila Matheny, 54, and James Matheny 61, of Bedford, Iowa were on one motorcycle. Michal Weese, 58, and Jerolyn Weese, 59, of Council Bluffs, Iowa were on the second.
The driver of the other vehicle was taken to Colorado for treatment of their injuries.
The State Patrol is urging motorists to use extra caution during the holiday weekend, as a record number of travelers are expected to be on the roads.
