CONCORD, CA : Pittsburg woman arrested in Hwy. 4 crash that injured CHP officer on Monday, January, 15th 2018

A Pittsburg woman is suspected of driving under the influence and causing a crash on Highway 4 that injured a California Highway Patrol officer on Monday, the agency said.

The CHP arrested 52-year-old Tammy Walker on suspicion of two counts of felony DUI causing great bodily injury. Doctors treated and released her from a hospital and, and officers took her to the county jail in Martinez, where she remained Tuesday morning in lieu of $215,000 bail.

The CHP also will ask that she be charged with reckless driving causing bodily injury, assault on a police officer causing great bodily injury and driving with a suspended license.

The officer, whom the CHP has identified as Officer Martin Lendway, is expected to survive, despite suffering major injuries. Lendway was assisting people involved in a non-injury crash involving a Lexus on eastbound Highway 4 at Port Chicago Highway around 6:15 p.m. when the crash happened.

The CHP said Walker drove a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer that hit the motorcycle and then drove into the back of a pickup truck, which catapulted forward and landed on top of the officer. Three other vehicles wound up involved in the crash trying to avoid the motorcycle that was launched into the air by the original collision, the CHP said.

An ambulance took the officer to a hospital.

The crash blocked the highway’s two left-hand lanes, leading the CHP to issue a Sig-alert at 6:35 p.m.. The No. 2 lane reopened just before 8:10 p.m., and all lanes reopened and the alert was canceled at 8:21 p.m..

Nobody else was injured seriously.
