Greenville ,NC : Two people killed after truck on a ramp that merges onto U.S. 264 Bypass on Friday , June 5th 2015

The N.C. Highway Patrol says two people are dead after the car they were in turned from an on-ramp and into the path of a pickup truck north of Greenville.

Local media outlets report a compact car with a man and woman inside pulled up next to the truck on a ramp that merges onto U.S. 264 Bypass on Friday.

The patrol said the truck driver told them when he was about 50 feet from the car, the other driver made a sharp left turn in front of him as if to make a U-turn and drove the wrong way.

Authorities say the driver of the pickup truck wasn't injured.

The patrol identified the victims as 34-year-old Maurice Monte Johnson and 31-year-old Sophina Smallwood, both from Lewiston-Woodville in Bertie County.
