One person died Sunday morning after his car left the road and struck a tree, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
Anderson County Chief Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman identified the deceased as John Marshall Cordell, 21, of 1301 Autun Road in Pendleton.
Trooper Joe Hovis said Cordell was driving a 2003 Hyundai east on Old Anderson Road at about 2:49 a.m. Sunday, when the car ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree.
Boseman said Cordell was just three to four minutes away from his home.
Cordell was trapped in the vehicle and died at the scene, Hovis said.
It was not immediately known whether Cordell was wearing a seat belt
