A 35-year-old Emporia woman was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence Thursday after causing a two-vehicle wreck.

The Emporia Police Department said Sarah Rathke of Emporia was arrested on suspicion of DUI, circumvention of ignition interlock device and following too close. Two people were injured and one was transported after Rathke allegedly rear-ended another vehicle.

Authorities were called to the intersection of W. U.S. Highway 50 and Industrial Road just after 8:30 p.m. Thursday for the report of an injury accident.

According to the police report, a blue Toyota passenger car driven by 38-year-old Kimberly Dunaway of Gridley was stopped in traffic awaiting a northbound turn onto Industrial Road when her vehicle was rear-ended by a gray Kia passenger car driven by Rathke. A passenger in Rathke's car, 35-year-old Emily Ivy, was transported to Newman Regional Health with a head injury. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

Dunaway also had a possible head injury, but was not transported. Rathke and a juvenile passenger in Dunaway's vehicle were not reported to have injuries. Both occupants of the Toyota were wearing seatbelts. It is unknown if Rathke was wearing a seatbelt.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene due to disabling damage.

The case will be sent to the Lyon County Attorney's Office for review. Anyone with information about the accident is asked to contact the Emporia Police Department at 343-4200 or Lyon Country Crime Stoppers at 342-2273.
