Boone, N.C : Lincolnton woman killed in motorcycle, car collision near Food Lion in Deep Gap on Friday, March 24, 2017
A 47-year-old woman from Lincolnton died after the motorcycle on which she was riding was struck in an accident March 24 at the intersection of U.S. 421 and old U.S. 421 near Food Lion in Deep Gap.
The collision of a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a white 2005 Subaru Forester occurred at approximately 5:07 p.m. on March 24, according to State Highway Patrol D. Searcy.
Donald Kluttz, 38, and Carolyn Kluttz, 47, of Lincolnton, were on the motorcycle when they were hit by the 17-year-old female driver of the Subaru, who was turning onto old U.S. 421 traveling south.
According to State Highway Patrol, as she attempted to turn left onto old U.S. 421, she hit the motorcycle due to an obstruction of vision involving other vehicles.
Carolyn Kluttz was killed, and Donald Kluttz is currently recovering from several injuries at Johnson City Medical Center, where he was flown by helicopter following the accident. As of 2 p.m. on March 26, Donald Kluttz was awake and alert, according to Searcy.
No citations have been issued at this point, and there are no signs of the involvement of alcohol or drugs. According to State Highway Patrol, no one involved was speeding.
The accident caused road closures with major delays on March 24, with roads reopening around 7 p.m.
