Delray Beach, FL : One woman killed and 12 others injured when BMW, van collide on Lake Ida Road on Saturday, April 16, 2016

One woman was killed and 12 others were injured Saturday when a church van carrying 11 people struck a BMW 325i on Lake Ida Road.

The van carrying 11 people was travelling west on Lake Ida Road at about 1:45 p.m. when it hit the passenger side of the BMW, which appeared to be turning left onto Lake Ida Road from Davis Road.

At least one person was extricated from the silver BMW 325i, which had a new, temporary license plate. A woman riding in the passenger seat of the BWM was killed. Her name was not available Saturday evening.

One person in the van was taken to a hospital as a trauma alert. Ten other passengers sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to Delray Beach Fire Rescue.

The van, from Bethanie Eglise Adventiste, a Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Boynton, had some damage to the front of the car. However, the windshield was intact and its airbags deployed.

Several hours after the accident, a tow-truck re-positioned the vehicles in the road as they were at the time of impact. The accident closed westbound Lake Ida Road just west of Congress Avenue until 4:30 p.m.

On March 30, 2015, eight people were killed and 10 injured when a van owned by the Independent Haitian Assembly of God Church in Fort Pierce crashed near Moore Haven.

The 18 people were returning to Fort Pierce from a Palm Sunday service in Fort Myers when the van, which was heading east on State Road 78, went through a stop sign, crossed U.S. 27 and went down an embankment, plunging through tall grass into a canal.
