Rapid City law enforcement officials say 22-year-old Lorin Winchester contributed to his traffic death Saturday by speeding on his motorcycle.

Winchester collided with a Honda minivan in the 2400 block of Mount Rushmore Road about 9:45 p.m. Police said the van was traveling north and attempted to make a left turn into a parking lot, turning in front of Winchester's southbound Kawasaki.

Winchester died of injuries at the scene. The 36-year-old woman driving the van was not injured. Her name was not released.

Rapid City Police Department spokesman Brendyn Medina on Monday said Winchester's rate of speed is being determined. Witnesses estimated the motorcycle was traveling 50 mph to 60 mph.
