Travelers Rest, South Carolina
A Tennessee man lost his life in a single-car crash in Greenville County on Friday, despite witnesses' attempts to rescue him, the coroner said.
The crash happened on U.S. 25 near Gap Creek Road near the North Carolina border around 8:40 a.m.
The car was headed south when the driver lost control, went off the right side of the roadway and flipped several times, according to Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans.
Evans said the rear-seat passenger, identified as 23-year-old Luis Bucato Jr., of Gatlinburg, was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car and he became trapped underneath its roof.
Witnesses lifted the car from atop Bucato but he did not survive, Evans said.
Officials said two other people were in the car but were not hurt.
