Eight people were injured, five of whom are children, in a crash with an 18-wheeler Tuesday night on Interstate-110 North near Hollywood Street, according to Baton Rouge police and Emergency Medical Services.

All eight were taken to an area hospital, said EMS spokesman Brad Harris. Their injuries were non-life-threatening, said Baton Rouge Police spokesman Sgt. L'Jean McKneely.

The 18-wheeler struck the vehicle from behind around 8:30 p.m., McKneely said. The driver of the truck told officers many of the people in the vehicle had not been wearing seat belts and that the driver of the vehicle was driving recklessly, McKneely said.
