An Ashland man died after a car crash in Holderness Thursday.

At 9:08 a.m., a car crashed on Interstate 93 southbound in Holderness, near mile marker 79.4. The car rolled over in the median.

The vehicle, a 2007 Ford F-150, was driven by John Hughes, 77. Hughes was not wearing his seat belt and suffered life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Speare Memorial Hospital, where he died.

The passenger, Kendall Hughes, 49, of Ashland, was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. He was treated and released.

Preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling south on I-93 during inclement weather. The vehicle was traveling in the right-hand lane and John Hughes was attempting to slow down for a vehicle in front of it that was also slowing down. John Hughes lost control of the vehicle and it went into the median between the north and southbound lanes, where it rolled over.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with further information on the crash is asked to call Trooper Amanda Johnson at 603-846-3333.
