GARDNERVILLE, NV : Pedestrian struck and killed on US-395 on Sunday August 10th 2014
Nevada Highway Patrol was dispatched to a crash late Sunday evening after a pedestrian was struck by multiple vehicles on US 395 at Douglas Co. mile marker 6 in the area of Spring Valley Dr.
Initial reports indicate and unidentified white male was standing in the southbound travel lane of US 395 when he was struck by a pickup that was traveling southbound. After being struck, the male was thrown into the northbound travel lane of US 395. According to officials, after striking the male, the pickup truck pulled to the right shoulder and stopped.
Two Douglas County Sheriff’s patrol vehicles -- who were on duty in the same area -- did not see the pedestrian and both struck him in the northbound travel lane, according to Nevada Highway Patrol. All vehicles stopped in an attempt to render aid and the Sheriff’s deputies secured the scene and contacted emergency personnel to respond. The male pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The drivers’ of the all vehicles involved are cooperating with law enforcement during this investigation. Alcohol or any other means of impairment are not a factor for the cause of the incident. The speed limit in this area of 395 is 55 mph, and roadway lighting is unavailable. The crash is still under investigation, no names are being release until next of the kin for the deceased has been notified and the investigation is completed.
