KANSAS CITY, MO : 1 critically injured in crash on northbound US 71 just south of Bannister Road on Tuesday, 16th April 2024

The northbound lanes of U.S. 71 Highway were closed Tuesday afternoon north of Interstate 435 in Kansas City, Missouri, due to a collision.

KCMO police report the crash involved a blue Kenworth truck, tractor and trailer as well as a white Dodge Charger.

Around 12:45 p.m., the Kenworth was traveling northbound on 71.

When the vehicle was just south of Bannister Road, the driver began to slow for traffic. At that time, the Kenworth was rear-ended by the Dodge, which police said was traveling northbound at a "high rate of speed."

Police report the driver of the Dodge, who was the sole occupant, was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver was transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. KCPD reported the condition of the driver as "very critical."

The Kenworth driver was not injured in the collision.
