CATAWBA COUNTY, NC : Motorcyclist crash, led officers on a chase in Catawba County on Thursday, October 5, 2017
A driver has been taken into custody after leading officers on a chase ending in Catawba County Thursday morning.
Around 8 a.m. Burke County Police Department received a call in reference to a stolen motorcycle. The caller told police he witnessed a man stealing his motorcycle and drive off.
According to police, while investigators was at the victim's home, the suspect, Barry McMahan II, drove passed on the stolen motorcycle.
Burke County officers pursued McMahan in a chase extending for more than 20 miles with speeds over 100 mph at times, officials said. He drove into one of the Burke County police cars during the chase.
McMahan crashed on Ashwood Street, ending the chase in Maiden in a field.
Police from both Maiden and Burke County pursued the suspect on foot after crashing the motorcycle.
He was taken into custody by Catawba County before being transported to Burke County where the incident originated.
He had a concealed High Point 9mm pistol in his possession when he was arrested.
McMahan is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges of assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement, damage to personal property, flee to elude arrest, larceny of motor vehicle, and carrying concealed weapon. He was taken into custody with a $135,00 secured bond.
