Hauppauge, N.Y : Stony Brook Fire Department chief and two others injured in a two-car crash in Hauppauge early Thursday morning, February 26, 2015

Authorities say three people have been injured in an accident involving a car and the SUV of a Long Island fire chief.

Suffolk County police say the crash occurred 12:36 a.m. Thursday in Hauppauge. It closed portions of Routes 111 and 347 for several hours.

They say a man driving with a passenger was heading south on Route 111 when their car struck the SUV belonging to the Stony Brook Fire Department chief.

The passenger was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. The driver had non-life threatening injuries.

Newsday says the driver of the fire department SUV was airlifted to a hospital but his condition wasn't immediately known.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
