Honolulu, HI : Driver dead at scene of two-vehicle crash on Highway 11 on Friday, January 6th 2017

A head-on collision on Highway 11 on Hawaii Island Friday night killed a woman at the scene.

The first fire unit arrived at the scene between the 96 and 97 mile markers south of Hookena at 7:41 p.m.

The crash happened between a mid-size truck and a compact car. A 66-year-old man was pinned in the driver side of the truck and a 63-year-old woman laying on the road. The 34-year-old woman, who was dead, was pinned in the driver side of the compact car.

The occupants of the truck were taken to the Kona Community Hospital.

That portion of Highway 11 was closed temporarily while police conducted an investigation.

The specific cause of the crash has not been determined.
