BROOKFIELD, CT : Route 7 fatal crash victim was on his way to vote on Tuesday, 8th November 2016
A talented and aspiring musician from New York who was on his way home to vote in the presidential election was killed during an early morning accident along Route 7 Tuesday.
Reed T. Latrowski, 23, was driving to his home in Rockville, N.Y., at around 4 a.m. early Tuesday when he lost control of the car he was driving - a 2015 BMW X5 - and hit a tree on the side of the road, police said, causing the vehicle to roll over and come to rest in a grassy area near the highway. Latrowski was pronounced dead at the scene.
Relatives said Latrowski, who graduated from Dartmouth College last year with a degree in history, had been tutoring a family friend in Goshen and was returning home when the accident occurred.
“He wanted to get back home so he could vote,” said John Suydam, Latrowski’s uncle.
He said Latrowski was a gifted musician and actor who attended the Professional Performing Arts High School in New York City before attending Dartmouth College. According to the school’s web site, Latrowski held a guitar, piano and vocal recital at the college in May that focused on music from the 17th century to today.
“Reed was a very gifted musician and an outgoing person who was easy to become friends with,” Suydam said.
He added that Latrowski was working on a project with the homeless in New York City that had been inspired by some of the talented artists he met on the streets.
“He was always sensitive to the homeless since a very young age,” Latrowski’s mother said.
She said he had a passion for acting that began when he was 11 years old and became involved with a national tour of “Oliver.”
According to the IMDb movie database, Latrowski appeared in “She is My Mom,” a short drama produced in 2013, as well as Escape from Garden Grove, a short student comedy produced in 2014.
According to the police report, the owner of the BMW Latrowski was driving was listed as Michael Besen, of Park Avenue in New York City. The vehicle had New Jersey license plates at the time of the accident.
Southbound Route 7 was closed for several hours after the crash. Police are continuing to investigate the accident.
