ATHENS, AL : Athens teen dies in early-morning wreck on Saturday, February 18th 2017

An Athens teen died early today in a one-vehicle accident on New Cut Road, according to state troopers.

Morgan Lane Creel, 19, was killed when the 2003 Toyota Corolla he was driving left the roadway and overturned before striking a tree, Trooper Curtis Summerville said in a statement.

Creel was not using a seat belt, Summerville said, and troopers believe speed was a factor in the accident. He was ejected from the vehicle, Summerville said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred at 4 a.m., less than a mile west of Athens.

Troopers are investigating the accident, Summerville said.
